Hands on virtual clay

چکیده
Simulated through a 3D grid storing the density of clay in each cell (0 for an empty cell, and 1 for a full cell). The surface is defined as the iso-surface at 0.5 of clay density. Clay behavior is captured by a layered model ensuring 3 properties: Large scale deformations (fig.1) Mass conservation by pouring the excess of matter in neighbouring cells (fig.2) Surface tension for preventing the clay from spreading over space (fig.3)

Virtual Clay for Direct Hand Manipulation
In order to make virtual modeling as easy as real clay manipulation, we describe a realtime virtual clay model, specially designed for direct hand manipulation. We build on a previous layered model for clay, extending it to handle local properties such as colour or fluidity, to deal with an arbitrary number of tools, and to capture twist effects due to rotating tools. The resulting clay model i...
متن کاملRapid Construction of Digital Model by Using Virtual Clay Modeling System
3D CAD systems have recently become essential to manufacturing processes. However it is still difficult to represent sculptured shapes using traditional 3D CAD systems because of its unintuitive interface. Consequently, designers tend to construct physical models such as clay models to express ideas on aesthetic design. With the rapid growth of virtual reality (VR) technologies, intuitive 3D in...
متن کاملInteractive Global and Local Deformations for Virtual Clay
Making virtual modeling as easy and intuitive as realclay manipulation is still an unsolved problem. This paper takes a step in this direction: in addition to offering standard features such as addition and removal of material, it uses a new real-time plasticity model to let the user apply local and global deformations such as those made in real clay by pressing with a finger or bending a sculp...
متن کاملFinger Sculpting with Digital Clay
Digital Clay is a term that signifies a computercontrolled physical surface, capable of taking any of a wide variety of possible shapes in response to changes in a digital 3D model or changes in the pressure exerted upon it by bare hands. The physical properties of such a device impose design and user-interface constraints not encountered in traditional, tracker-based software for the manipulat...
متن کاملVirtual Clay: Haptics-Based Deformable Solids of Arbitrary Topology
This paper presents Virtual Clay as a novel, interactive, dynamic, haptics-based deformable solid of arbitrary topology. Our Virtual Clay methodology is a unique, powerful visual modeling paradigm which is founded upon the integration of (1) deformable models, (2) free-form, spline-based solids, (3) procedural subdivision solids of arbitrary topology, and (4) dynamic objects governed by physica...
